LUSCS thanks its members with a Year-End party
It was a fun-filled and memorable night for the Leeds United Supporters Club Singapore at the Lot, Stock & Barrel pub on 22 December 2001 when the ExCo celebrated the success of the club by organising a Year-End Party to thank members for their support and commitment.
With the formation of LUSCS in August, there was widespread interest from Leeds fans in Singapore and the region in the club’s membership drive, match meets and other activities. That helped LUSCS build up a membership base of more than 70 in just four months.
Besides good food and drink, members attending this special event also stood a chance of winning prizes totalling close to S$1,000, thanks to the kind donations from the ExCo, Jerry (owner of LS&B), and overseas members like Brian Foster from Australia. (The prize sponsors can be found at the end of this story.)
Prizes were also given to the most originally dressed Leeds member and theest imitation of a Leeds player. But the lucky draw segment was the highlight for most members. Up for grabs were the Chairman’s and Top Lucky Draw prizes with the two lucky winners taking a blue and white replica shirt.
But no party would be complete without a cake.
Members were treated to a beautiful coffee cake with the Leeds United Football Club crest. The cake tasted as good as it looked and by the end of the night, our hungry members had polished off every single crumb.
A big surprise was also in store for LUSCS Founder and Chairman, Greg!
His dislike for the colour red is well known and the ExCo members had a scheme to drape him in a Manchester United shirt, complete with a pair of bright red knickers.
That saw all the other members joining in the fun and Greg was painted with red lipstick. His final “punishment” was to run through the already packed pub shouting his dislike for the team across the Pennines!
To everyone’s amazement, he did better than that by rushing out of the pub and hollering at the top of his voice, “I hate Man U!”
To cap it off, the night ended with a match meet as the Leeds game against Newcastle was shown Live on the telly. Despite the team’s disappointing defeat to the Magpies, the night still ended on a high note as members left celebrating the success of our supporters club.
Surely a night to remember for a long time for all the pioneers of our supporters club, but more so for the total madness and spirit generated by the most fervent bunch of fans to grace the island of Singapore.
